A small stone structure in the corner of the compound, surrounded by beautiful flowers, with a statue of Mary standing in the centre of it. Most students walked past it on their way to class. I used to stop there.

I went to a convent school, so Mary was part of the landscape — in the chapel, in the classrooms, in the conversations of the sisters who taught us. But for me it was never about the religion. It was about the feeling. Standing at that grotto, I felt something I could not explain as a child and can only just begin to put into words now. It felt like someone was there. Someone who already knew everything I was carrying and was completely unbothered by it.

Before exams, I went to the grotto. Before competitions, I went. When a friendship fell apart or someone said something that stayed with me longer than it should have, I went. I never had a formal prayer I said. I just stood there, or sat on the low stone wall nearby, and let myself feel whatever I was feeling. And something always settled.

I did not think much about why it worked. It just did. She felt like the one place I could bring the unfinished, unresolved parts of myself and not have to explain them or fix them before I arrived.
She never asked me to be further along than I was. That was the thing about her.
Then school ended. Life moved fast. I got married, built a home, became a mother. The grotto was far away and the years filled up with everything years fill up with. I did not make a conscious decision to step away from that relationship. It just quietly fell out of my daily life the way many things do when you are busy becoming an adult.

I spent decades building things. A home, a family, eventually a business. I became someone who handled things. Someone who showed up and delivered. And I am proud of that woman. She did what she had to do. But somewhere in all of that becoming, I lost access to the version of myself that used to stand at the grotto and just be. The version that trusted something larger than her own two hands.

A few years ago, something shifted. I started paying attention to what I had set aside. The intuition I had stopped listening to. The softness I had packed away because it did not seem useful. The need to be held rather than always doing the holding. And slowly, in a different way than the girl at the grotto — but with the same feeling — I found my way back.

Mary came with me. Or perhaps she had been there all along, waiting for me to look up.

I share this because I know I am not the only woman who has this kind of story. A connection that mattered deeply, then got buried under the weight of life, and is now asking to be remembered. It does not have to be Mary. It can be any figure, any tradition, any practice that once made you feel held. The point is not the form it takes. The point is that something in you knew, even as a child, that you needed more than just your own effort to move through this world.

That knowing was right. And it is still right now.

My school had a grotto. Across countries, cultures and belief systems that do not agree on very much, she shows up. Women who are not Catholic light candles in front of her image. People who have left organised religion entirely still feel something when they encounter her. That kind of staying power is worth paying attention to.

The question worth asking is: what is it, exactly, that people are reaching for when they reach for her?

She does not offer solutions. She does not tell you what to do or hand you a roadmap out of your situation. Her presence is not a transaction — you do not bring her your problem and receive an answer in return. What she offers is something harder to name and, honestly, harder to find anywhere else. She holds space. She receives whatever you bring without flinching, without judging, without requiring you to arrive in any particular state.

For a woman who has spent her life being competent, being needed, being the one who holds things together — that kind of reception is extraordinary. The experience of being held rather than holding. Of being seen completely and met with acceptance rather than expectation.

She becomes a mirror. Not for your flaws, but for your wholeness.

What strikes me most about Mary, looking at her across traditions, is that she represents a kind of feminine power that the world rarely celebrates. She is not powerful because she fought for it or demanded it or proved it. Her power is in her capacity to love fully, to remain present in the most devastating circumstances, and to hold others in their pain without being broken by it. That is not weakness. Anyone who has genuinely tried to do that knows exactly how much strength it requires.

In the language of HerAwaken, Mary is the fullest expression of Divine Feminine energy in Western tradition. Intuition, empathy, unconditional love, the ability to hold space — she embodies all of it. And she stands alongside the Divine Masculine — represented in the teachings of Jesus, in purpose, in compassionate strength, in service — as a reminder that both are needed. Both are sacred. Both live in each of us.

You do not have to be Catholic to feel the truth in that. You do not have to be religious at all. The archetype of the nurturing, all-accepting feminine is older than any religion. Mary simply became its most recognisable face in one part of the world. Artemis carried it before her. Shakti carries it in another tradition. Kwan Yin carries it in another. The names change. The energy is the same.

What every one of these figures points toward is something that lives inside every woman. The capacity to love without condition, to receive without judgment, to remain present without losing yourself. That is the invitation. To develop that in yourself — not as a performance, but as a genuine way of moving through the world.

— Nylah, HerAwaken

__TVE_SHORTCODE_RAW___

@media (min-width: 300px){.tcb-post-list[data-css="tve-u-193737aa145"] .post-wrapper.thrv_wrapper { width: calc(50% - 10px); }.tcb-post-list[data-css="tve-u-193737aa145"] .post-wrapper.thrv_wrapper:nth-child(n+3) { margin-top: 20px !important; }.tcb-post-list[data-css="tve-u-193737aa145"] .post-wrapper.thrv_wrapper:not(:nth-child(n+3)) { margin-top: 0px !important; }.tcb-post-list[data-css="tve-u-193737aa145"] .post-wrapper.thrv_wrapper:not(:nth-child(2n)) { margin-right: 20px !important; }.tcb-post-list[data-css="tve-u-193737aa145"] .post-wrapper.thrv_wrapper:nth-child(2n) { margin-right: 0px !important; }.tcb-post-list[data-css="tve-u-19c9d18a61f"] .post-wrapper.thrv_wrapper { width: calc(25% - 15px); }.tcb-post-list[data-css="tve-u-19c9d18a61f"] .post-wrapper.thrv_wrapper:nth-child(n+5) { margin-top: 20px !important; }.tcb-post-list[data-css="tve-u-19c9d18a61f"] .post-wrapper.thrv_wrapper:not(:nth-child(n+5)) { margin-top: 0px !important; }.tcb-post-list[data-css="tve-u-19c9d18a61f"] .post-wrapper.thrv_wrapper:not(:nth-child(4n)) { margin-right: 20px !important; }.tcb-post-list[data-css="tve-u-19c9d18a61f"] .post-wrapper.thrv_wrapper:nth-child(4n) { margin-right: 0px !important; }}
"tcb2_ready":1
[21
30,32,33,35,38,39,37
post-122","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-divine-feminine","tag-divine-feminine","tag-divine-masculine","tag-energy-balance","tag-feminine-leadership","tag-personal-development","tag-self-love","tag-spiritual-growth","post-wrapper","thrv_wrapper
["GET
